Plantain Corne de Cerf (Deer’s Horn Plantain) is a small biennial plant that grows wild in the sandy coastal soils. It has a crunchy texture and a unique flavor that blends fresh grass, spiciness, bitterness, and sweetness. Growing Tips Sow from late March to late September in small clusters of 6–8 seeds, at 1 cm depth, spaced 15 cm apart, with 30 cm between rows. Harvest as needed, about three months after sowing. It can be eaten raw, boiled, or sautéed like spinach. Also known for its many medicinal properties. How to Save Seeds Shake the dry flowering stems over a container to release the seeds. Gently blow on them to separate the seeds from the husks—be careful, as the light seeds may blow away! Alternatively, cut the stems and let them dry on a sheet of paper—the seeds will dry and fall off naturally onto the surface.
